Description1924, 2 vols, folio, with the Foreword, dated 1914, by Lord Rothschild who sponsored Frohawk for many years to undertake the production of the work, 4 plain and 60 colour plates, blue cloth binding with a few marks and wear on covers and but otherwise in good condition, Hutchison & Co. The first book to illustrate fully and describe the life stages of all the British species; Frohawk took the best part of thirty years to breed every butterfly from egg to the adult stage recording with many images under the microscope. Now the ‘classic’ twentieth century work on British lepidoptera with probably the finest paintings on this subject ever executed, published by Hutchinson & Co.
