This book deals with the butterfly and moth section of Thomas Moufet’s great work Insectorum Theatrum, 1634, the first book about insects published in England. It contains a facsimile of the original Latin version and a translation with identifications of the species wherever possible. These are preceded by a commentary about the manuscript and book, Moufet, the other contributors and the illustrations. There is also a bibliography and brief section on “The earliest surviving specimen of a butterfly?”
